QR code not working? How to fix it

Most QR problems come from an expired code, scanning with a different number, or the number still being linked somewhere else. Find the message you see below and follow the fix.

"This QR code expired"

Each QR code lasts two minutes for security. The timer under the code turns red near the end.

  1. Click Get a new QR code.
  2. Have WhatsApp open on Linked Devices before the new code appears, so you can scan right away.

"The WhatsApp you scanned with doesn't match the number you entered"

You must scan with the WhatsApp account of the number you typed. This protects you: nobody can type your number and link their own phone to your account.

  1. Check which number is on the phone you are scanning with (in WhatsApp, open Settings and tap your name).
  2. Click Try again and type that exact number, or scan from the phone that has the number you typed.
  3. If you use both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business on one phone, make sure you scan from the app that uses the number you typed.

Signing back in with a WhatsApp code

If you signed out but your number is still linked, you don't need to scan again. When you enter your number on the sign in page, we send a 6 digit code to your WhatsApp, in your chat with yourself (Message yourself). The live connection is never stopped, so the AI keeps working.

  1. Enter your WhatsApp number on the sign in page.
  2. Open WhatsApp on your phone and find the message from yourself that says "Your CallMePing login code is...".
  3. Type the 6 digit code on the Check your WhatsApp screen.
  • The code expires after 10 minutes and works once.
  • No code? Wait a minute and click Send a new code. You can get up to 5 codes an hour.
  • Never share the code with anyone, including people who say they are from CallMePing.

Team members never scan a QR code or get a code. If you were invited to a team, click Team login (or Sign in with email) and use your email and password.

"This number is already connected elsewhere"

You see this if we could not send you a login code. Wait a minute and try again. If it keeps happening, on your phone open WhatsApp, go to Linked Devices, tap the CallMePing device and tap Log out, then enter your number again and scan the new QR code. Your account, chats and settings are kept.

Number format errors

  • "Enter your WhatsApp number." The number box is empty.
  • "A ... number has N digits": type the number without the country code and without a leading 0. Pick the right country first.
  • "Indian mobile numbers start with 6, 7, 8 or 9." Check for a typo, or that it is not a landline.

"Sorry, we don't support WhatsApp numbers from this country yet"

CallMePing is not available for numbers from that country right now. The team is notified automatically and will be in touch. You do not need to do anything else.

"Our service isn't available right now"

A temporary problem on our side stopped the connection. We are notified automatically. Please try again later.

"Something went wrong", "Session stopped" or "Proxy connection failed"

The connection did not come up on our side. These are usually temporary.

  1. Click Try again.
  2. Enter your number and scan the new QR code.
  3. If it fails three times in a row, wait a few minutes before trying again, then contact support if it still fails.

"Rate limit exceeded"

There is a limit of 10 connect attempts per 10 minutes from one network. Wait for the number of seconds shown in the message, then try again.

Your phone camera will not read the code

  • Turn up your screen brightness and hold the phone steady, about 20 to 30 cm away.
  • Make sure the whole code is visible and not cut off by a small window. Zoom the browser back to 100%.
  • Scan from WhatsApp itself (Linked Devices, then Link a Device), not from your phone camera app.
  • Check that your phone has internet.

Common questions

It is stuck on "Preparing your QR code".

This usually takes a few seconds. If nothing happens after a minute, refresh the page and try again.

I scanned, but nothing happened.

The page checks for your scan every couple of seconds. If the timer runs out first, click Get a new QR code and scan again. Make sure the phone has internet while you scan.

Will trying again create a duplicate account?

No. An unscanned attempt is cleaned up, and a number that already has an account always reconnects to that same account.
