How to use the Command Center to track tasks in WhatsApp groups

Command Center reads the WhatsApp groups you switch on and turns what people say into a list of tasks, promises, decisions, blockers and unanswered questions. New messages are checked every 5 minutes, and the Dashboard shows what is open, overdue or due today.

Switch on your first group

When you switch a group on, we read what this number has already seen in it (the last 14 days), then keep up with new messages. The first results usually appear within about 5 minutes. You can leave the page while it reads.

  1. Open Command Center in the sidebar, under Groups.
  2. Click the Groups tab at the top right. On your first visit it opens by itself.
  3. Find the group under Available. If you have more than 6 groups, use Search groups.
  4. Click the switch next to the group to turn it on.
  5. Click the Dashboard tab to see results as they come in.

Anything said before your number joined the group is not available. Only groups your linked number is a member of show up here.

What the group status means

  • Learning: we are still reading the group's messages. A progress bar shows how many messages are read and roughly how long is left.
  • Listening: the group is switched on, but nothing has been said yet that we could read. New messages are picked up automatically.
  • Up to date: all messages are read. You also see how many messages were read and when it last checked.
  • Retrying: we couldn't read the latest messages. We try again in a few minutes, so you don't need to do anything.

Read the Dashboard

Pick one group or All switched-on groups, then a date range: Today, Yesterday, 7 days, 30 days or Custom. A custom range covers at most 92 days.

  • Open tasks and promises: everything still open, plus how many are new in the range.
  • Overdue: open items whose due date has passed. Click Show them in the red alert to see only those.
  • Due today: items due today, and the number of unanswered questions.
  • Open blockers: things people said are stuck.
  • Completed in range: items closed in the range, with the number of messages and people.
  • Group activity: a bar chart of messages per day.
  • By person: open, overdue and done items for each owner.

How many groups you can switch on

If you try to switch on more groups than your plan allows, you see an upgrade message. After a downgrade, groups beyond your plan stay switched on but are not read. The groups you switched on first keep working.

  • Free trial: 1 group.
  • Growth: 5 groups.
  • Enterprise: up to 25 groups.
  • Starter and Plus do not include Command Center.

Common questions

Why is my group stuck on Learning?

Each check reads up to 1,000 messages per group and runs every 5 minutes, so a busy group can take a little while. The progress bar shows how much is left. You can close the page; results appear on their own.

Why don't I see older messages from the group?

Command Center reads only what your number has seen, and only the last 14 days when you switch a group on. Messages from before your number joined the group are not available.

Does switching a group off delete its items?

No. Switching off stops reading new messages. The group no longer appears in the Dashboard's group list while it is off.

Can a team member use Command Center?

Yes, if the owner gives them the Command Center permission on the Team page. The owner always has access.
