How to set your AI's personality, tone and language

Yes, you can shape how the AI sounds. Open Train AI, click the Instructions tab, and describe the personality, tone, answer length and language you want in your own words. The AI follows it in every chat.

How to write instructions

  1. Open Train AI and click the Instructions tab.
  2. Write how the AI should talk, in plain sentences. Use the examples below as a starting point.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Send a few test messages in the test panel and adjust the wording until the replies feel right.

Instructions can be up to 4,000 characters. When you write any, they replace the default tone.

Answer length

  • "Keep every reply to one or two short lines. No long paragraphs."
  • "Give detailed answers with all the options when someone asks about packages."
  • "Answer the question first, then ask one follow up question."

Language

By default the AI replies in the language the customer writes in, even if your business info is in English. You can change that:

  • "Always reply in English, whatever language the customer uses."
  • "Reply in Hinglish, a casual mix of Hindi and English written in English letters."
  • "Use British English spelling and a formal style."
  • "Reply in Arabic if the customer writes in Arabic, otherwise in English."

Personality and vibe

  • Super polite: "Be very polite and respectful. Greet customers warmly, thank them, and address them as sir or ma'am."
  • Friendly and casual: "Talk like a friendly shop owner texting a regular customer. Relaxed, warm, a few emojis."
  • Laid back hippie: "Be chill and positive, like a laid back beach cafe owner. Use words like vibes, peace and good energy."
  • Playful and witty: "Be cheeky and fun, with light humour, but always answer the question."
  • Blunt and to the point: "No small talk and no pleasantries. Just the answer."
  • Strictly professional: "Formal tone, no emojis, no slang, full sentences."
  • Give it a name: "Your name is Riya and you work at the front desk of Sunrise Clinic."

Edgy is fine, but the AI will not insult or abuse your customers, even if asked to. Blunt or sassy works better than rude.

Behaviour rules

  • "Never discuss competitors."
  • "If someone wants to book, ask for their name, date and time."
  • "Do not offer discounts. If asked, say our team will confirm."
  • "If you don't know the answer, say: Let me check with the team and get back to you shortly."
  • "Use the customer's name when they share it."

What instructions cannot do

Instructions change how the AI talks, not what it knows. They never let it make up prices, hours or policies. Put facts on the Knowledge tab. To make replies feel more human with a short pause and typing indicator, set a reply delay under Settings.

Common questions

Can Ping answer in different languages?

Yes. It replies in the language of the customer's latest message by default. You do not need to translate your business info.

The replies are too long. How do I make them shorter?

Add a line to Instructions such as "Keep every reply under two short lines." Save and test again.

Can I have a different tone for different customers?

There is one set of instructions per account, but you can write rules inside it, for example "Be formal with corporate clients who mention their company."
