How to create, use and revoke API keys
API keys are created by the account owner on the Developer API page. A key acts as your linked WhatsApp number, so keep it secret.
Create a key
- Open Developer API in the sidebar.
- In the API keys card, type a label such as Zapier or my website.
- Press Create key.
- Press Copy key, store the key safely, then press Done.
The key is shown only once. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.
Use the key
Send the key in the Authorization header as a Bearer token. An X-Api-Key header also works. Keys start with wa_live_.
curl -X GET "https://callmeping.com/api/v1/me" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"curl -X GET "https://callmeping.com/api/v1/me" \
-H "X-Api-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"Revoke a key
- Open Developer API.
- Find the key by its first characters and label in the API keys card.
- Press Revoke and confirm.
Anything using a revoked key stops working immediately.
Key rules
- You can have up to 10 active keys. Revoke one before creating more.
- Each key has its own limit of 120 calls per minute. Sending limits are per WhatsApp number, so more keys do not let you send more.
- Only the account owner can create or revoke keys. A key cannot be used to create or revoke other keys.
- A key can do everything in your account, so only share it with people and tools you trust with full access.
